Dry Cleaning Care
Dry cleaning is the gold standard for caring for your finest garments — and at Couture Fine Cleaners, it’s the foundation of everything we do. Unlike home washing, our professional dry cleaning process uses carefully controlled chemical solvents rather than water, eliminating the risk of shrinkage, fibre distortion, and colour bleed that can permanently damage delicate fabrics like cashmere, silk, and wool.
Every garment that comes through our door is individually assessed before any process begins — we examine the fabric, lining, trims, and construction to determine the safest and most effective method, never defaulting to a one-size-fits-all approach. We pre-treat stains before cleaning, because different stain types require different chemistry, and applying the wrong treatment to a set stain can make it permanent.
What many clients don’t realize is that invisible stains — from perspiration, perfume, fruit juice, or white wine — are already oxidizing in the fabric after every wear, and left untreated, they become the yellowing and discolouration that shortens a garment’s life. Regular professional cleaning doesn’t wear out your clothes — it extends them, by removing the embedded oils and residues that silently degrade fibres between wears.
Every piece leaves our care hand finished and pressed, ready to wear.
Frequently asked Questions

Yes — and this is one of the most important things to understand about luxury garment care. Stains from fruit juice, wine, perfume, sweat, and hair spray can be completely invisible when a garment is first dropped off but oxidize over time into yellow or brown discolouration that becomes very difficult, sometimes impossible, to remove. The rule is simple: clean garments promptly after wearing, even if they look fine, especially before storing them seasonally.

Most fabrics respond well to professional dry cleaning. The exceptions are items with PVC panels, plastic embellishments, certain waterproof coatings, or rubber-bonded materials that can be degraded by solvents. When in doubt, bring the garment to us — we’ll assess the construction, lining, and trims before any cleaning begins, and we’ll be honest if an alternative method like wet cleaning or hand cleaning is the better choice.

The opposite is actually true. Regular, professional cleaning extends the life of a garment by removing embedded dirt, oils, and invisible residues that act like sandpaper against fibres over time. Insects are also attracted to soiled clothing, causing further damage in storage. The garments that age poorly are almost always the ones left uncleaned for long periods, not the ones maintained consistently.

Professionally controlled dry cleaning does not cause shrinkage. Shrinkage in dry cleaning is almost always the result of improper temperature control or the use of excessive moisture during finishing (pressing and steaming). Our in-house process uses calibrated equipment and trained specialists to prevent this entirely. If you’ve had shrinkage elsewhere, it’s often a sign that the garment was wet-cleaned or steamed at an incorrect temperature.

Yes — for most natural fibres like wool, silk, and cashmere, dry cleaning is significantly safer than machine or hand washing. Dry cleaning uses chemical solvents rather than water, which means there is no agitation, heat, or moisture that can cause fibres to shrink, distort, or lose their natural finish. At Couture Custom Cleaners, every garment is individually assessed before any process begins, so the method always matches the fabric — not just the care label.
